Day 2 Rishikesh to Chopta
Day 2
Saturday, 30th September
We woke at around 6 AM, to a beautiful calm and peaceful morning. Everyone was quick to get ready by 8 AM, after a light breakfast we started for Chopta around 8:30Am.During the course of our journey we will be travelling via Shivpuri-Kaudilya-DeoPrayag-ShriNagar-RudraPrayag-Chopta. At Rudra prayag routes separates for Kedarnath and Badrinath. Rudraprayag is where River Manadkni (Source near Kedarnath) confluancing with river Alakhnand (Source near Badrinath). We have to take the Kedranath way and then somehwre near Kund take the Chopta route.
After a long stride we stopped at ChandraPuri (after taking Kedranath route at Rudra prayag) to wait for our second innova which was a way behind join us. Chandrapuri is on the banks of River Manadkni . Chandrapuri is beautiful with breath taking views.GMVN has TRH there, we spent some time there and enjoyed some time in river as well.
This road now takes us to Chopta. the road is narrow but amazingly beatiful and littered with lot of grassy meadows, we stopped at one for some leisure. This is where we got the first glimpse of snow capped mountains. Finally aroung 5PM eveing we reached Chopta our base camp. We had already booked 3 rooms (10 bed) in advance in shack there(courtsey Prashant we got the number of the guy from here.). The sunset @ Chopta.... Hmmm stort of words. let me put it like brilliant and amazing. Some of the photographs I had taken on falling light had been appreciated by my friends. In Chopta even though there is GMVN Guest house it has shutdown since 1996. As the sun light went down the cold started creeping in even with two Rajais there was no escape from the bone bitting cold. Owner of the shack was kind enough to arrange for Bonfire. Chopta doesn't have electricity supply, The shack keepers runs generator for 3-4 hrs form evening 6-9 pm.We managed to recharge our camera batteries and mobiles during that time, If you intend to travel in group do do keep a multi plug power strip as you may have just a couple of points available. The Shack owner also had a small dhaba, where guest can have food. Unlike other places you have to place your order early with specific menu you want to eat. Rates are amazingly very reasonable. Evening snack, dinner, morning breakfast and a night lodging cost us just Rs 2500/- for a group of 11 people. around 11:30 we settled down hoping for an amazing morning.
