Day 3 Chopta to DeoriTal and Tunganath
Sunday , 1st October
Our Plan was to start early morning trek to Deoria Tal , come back to Chopta and start for Tungnath in afternoon. Over night stay at Tungnath. We booked a pony to carry ou stuff to Tungnath. We also asked the pony guys to book 3 room atleast for us in Tungnath. Those guys went multiple time up/down. We woke up at 6 AM it was chill, but no one was ready to get out of thier beds comfort as it was very cold outside. the mornign sunrays falling on the snow coverd chaukamba and kedarnath peak was heavnly experiance and that too while sipping a piping hot coffee. the Trek rout to deoria tal begins at sari village 20km away from chopta.
The lake is mostly famous for its wide 300° panorama. Mountains like Chaukhamba, Nilkantha, Bandarpunch, Yellow Tooth, Kedar Range, Kalanag, etc. can be seen from here. There exists another route from Deoria Tal to Tungnath, which is mainly chosen as Night Camping, Jungle Trekking, etc. In the Indian mythology the legend is that the Devas bathed in this lake hence the name, the lake is also sometimes believed to be the "Indra Sarovar" referred to in the Puranas by wandering, Hindu mendicants Sadhus. It is also believed that it was the place from where the mighty Pandavas were asked queries by Yaksha. Deoria Tal had One of the bright sunny day,Usally one can see chaukhamba peaks reflection.but the strong wind which was blowing whole day spoiled that.
We where back at Chopta by 2 PM, everybody had lunch and some took bath as we were sweat so much at Deoria Tal trek. we started aour trek to tungnath at 3:45 pm. As we started gaing altitude teh trees started disapperaing and bugyals (grass lands) started apprearing on our way to Tungnath. Many occasions we opted for short cuts .We reached Tungnath at 6PM . The pony booked had already booked 2 rooms Kali-Kamli dharamshala. every one was exausted and showed signs of mountain sickness due to lack of oxygen as we where at an altitude of 3600 Mts form mean sea level. so we paid a short visit to the temple and had the food immediately and we wanted to go for sleep asap , because next day we have to start around 4 AM to catch sunrise from chandrashilla peak.It was very cold must be around -5 C, we prepared a bonfire ,had dinner and went for sleep at 9 PM.
